At the Household Cavalry Open Day, Bodney Camp
Cromer in the dark
Jess comes to visit.
Photoday with Dani, Charlotte, and Lucy
We go to the Common and hike out in boots as the sun is setting. Curious cows are interested in our cameras. I try and describe how I see through a lens, and teach Dani some tricks to try. Charlotte has her photograph taken and smiles.
Coots Unleashed 2011
A fragmented week with comings and goings, too little wind but lots of laughter. We sail from broad to broad, get stuck in the reeds, hitch lifts from cruisers, sing songs, and Blade finds his sea-legs. It’s a lot like last year but not. I take fewer photographs, and I’m working on film. Changing tides.
The Wayland Cottage Choir Camp
Alice hosts the Nerd Herd charity concert. We catch the train to the edge of the county and she makes sure we have proper night’s sleep before the panic of the morning.
We spend hours learning medleys and duets. I realise I have only the shortened version of Tonight from West Side Story, so Jonny learns Tony’s part just before the concert. I sit on a bee during our rehearsal but Grandma is pleased that I wear her 1940’s dress and we raise hundreds of pounds for Smile Train.
Afterwards, back at Waveney Cottage, we eat a huge meal and I fall asleep, and when I wake up we go out into the field and name the stars and walk around the fen in the dark. The next day we take the train back to the city, wearing yesterday’s clothes but yesterday’s smiles.
